Angry residents in Nuneaton have been told they may have to wait up to 2 months for a replacement bin if theirs is lost or stolen.
Most residents pay around £160 per month in council tax so they’re understandably angry at the potential lengthy wait for a new bin, especially if the bin is stolen or damaged and they aren’t at fault. Some residents have complained at being told they can put bin bags out, when they smell and are a target for wildlife.
The council responded by saying that 8 weeks is the absolute maximum time that someone would have to wait. They added that they try to replace bins as soon as possible but they sometimes need to allow for delays in sourcing or delivering the bins.
A suspected burglar was arrested in East Belfast, with a wheelie bin full of the goods he had stolen. Police officers carrying out a routine patrol stopped the man who was found to be in possession of a lot of goods that did not belong to him. Police investigated and the items were found to have been stolen from a property during a burglary. All of the good were returned to their owner and the thief was arrested for burglary and sent to the cells.

The second annual National Refuse Championships (NRC) in Weston-Super-Mare raised over £20,000 for The Alzheimer’s Society.
Over 2,000 people gathered along the beach on Saturday 16th June to watch over 30 teams compete in wheelie bin races against the clock.
The challenge involved loading wheelie bins with bags of sand then pulling or pushing them to a refuse truck and emptying them. The vehicles then raced to the finish line. Among the teams who competed were Biffa Municipal, Gullivers Truck Hire, Grundon, Simply Waste Solutions, Oxford Direct Services, Amey, Swansea Council, FCS, VWS, Pirtek, Imperial Commercials, Aberdeenshire Council, Cawleys, Viridor, Weir Waste, Hills Waste, WSR Recycling and Devon Contract Waste.
Grist Environmental, a waste management company based in Wiltshire were crowned champions with the local Biffa team Biffa coming second and Cartwrights Waste Disposal Services taking third place.
Each member of the winning team was presented with vouchers towards a Center Parcs holiday, second place winners got £250 worth of Buy-A-Gift Vouchers, and the third place team received £200 worth of Buy-A-Gift Vouchers.
The championship’s founder said that the event went really well and that they’ve already had enquiries from local authorities who want to take part next year. The organisers thanked staff, exhibitors, the teams, the event sponsors, and all of the spectators for making the event a success. The date for the National Refuse Championships 2019 is being announced soon.
